What Walk Your Cat readers say about the book

This guide gave me really good direction and a place to start in teaching
my cat to walk on a lead. It walks you through the different steps of training
from start to finish, and brings up all the challenges you're likely to have.
There's a lot about how cats think, which is great - it's the basis for any kind
of training. Now I've always had cats, done a little training, and read training
books, so I was therefore able to quite easily grasp the authors' concepts.

I think the ideas are very well explained for those just beginning in training,
and there's more than enough info for intermediate trainers who just need a
few guidelines and direction.

Besides, their ideas are working - my cat is already doing quite well!

I've been walking three cats for about 6 years now and got this book to
see if I could learn anything more. It was a very thoughtful book. I
found that I did learn a few things and believe anyone can walk their
cat no matter what the age. I would recommend it to those that worry
about letting their cat outdoors alone. I walk mine for 25 minutes every
morning and night just around the yard. Gives me a lot of peace knowing
that they are safe.

Bobbie, Oregon

I am proud to report that it CAN be done! I can now successfully walk my
two indoor kitties. One LOVES it and gets his leash and harness and drags
it to the door to go. The other loved it while it was warm, but does NOT want
to be outside now. It is not too hard to walk the two of them because the
siamese listens and follows verbal commands. One thing: I had to switch
from a regular harness to a PET MET walking jacket because my boy cat
could wrangle out of his harness. (If I am walking two, I can't always get to
the side of each of them.) All in all a GREAT Book!

Cat Mom

Walking a cat always seemed impossible to me, until I read this book. Now
I'm convinced it can definitely be done--and that it also makes life much more
enjoyable for indoor cats. (I love all the info the authors include about feline
psychology and body language, too. Fascinating stuff!)

Indoor Cat, Outdoor Book

"Walk Your Cat" (Spiraka, 2008) is the title of a new book by Steven Jacobson and Jean Miller that guides cat owners on getting their pet to enjoy going out in a harness on a leash for a walk and sniff-around. Cats that are indoors all the time can suffer from extreme boredom, and once they get used to wearing a harness and going out on a leash, they never look back. Useful tips on handling, safety and basic health care are included.

--Dr Michael Fox, Washington Post

"This is a book that ... is fascinating ...and it is something that I think anybody who has a cat is going to want to, at least, look at. I think you should go out and get it and keep it as a reference. Walk Your Cat is an easy, easy read, well illustrated, neat chapters in it on leash-training.... This is all about people bonding closer with their pet... and learning how to enjoy more time together."
