Many animal welfare organizations, including the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), promote an indoor lifestyle for cats. In their own words: " The Humane Society of the United States recommends that pet cats be kept indoors, safely confined to their property or walked on a harness and leash. In addition to protecting cats, we are concerned for the welfare of other animals that cats may injure or kill while outside.”
Bringing cats indoors protects both cats and the many creatures outdoors they prey on. Walk Your Cat explains that while on walks, it is possible to let your cat hunt. However, while HSUS recommends leash-training cats, they are against allowing cats on leashes to hunt.
